Mayor Nathaniel George Booker Scholarship

The Mayor Nathaniel George Booker Scholarship will provide $1000 for a Proviso East or West High School Black male graduating senior pursuing a degree in government, education, or civic engagement with a goal of fulfilling a career in public service. 

 Mayor Booker’s mission, in offering this scholarship, is to address the disparities amongst minority involvement within education, government, and civic engagement.  Given the staggeringly low numbers of minority male leaders in those spaces within the U.S. and, in particular, Illinois, this scholarship aims to increase awareness and access for those desiring to pursue higher education.

Scholarship Requirements: 

 -- Must be a Black male Proviso East or Proviso West graduating senior. 

--   Pursue a field of study within government, education, or civic engagement.

--  2.5 or higher GPA 

--  Participated in community service (a letter from organization or person(s) who can vouch for participant’s involvement is required).

--  Completion of the required essay- 250 words minimum.  "How will this scholarship assist in pursuing your future aspirations?"

--  Submit two letters of recommendation

--  Submit unofficial high school transcript(s)
