The Elijah T. Acklin Sr. Student Leader Scholarship

The Elijah T. Acklin Sr. Student Leader Scholarship provides $2,000 for a student-athlete who has demonstrated a high level of leadership in the classroom, on the field, and in the community throughout high school. 
 
Master Sergeant (Ret.) Elijah T. Acklin Sr. is a Class of 1993 Proviso East alumnus. As a student-athlete, he graduated at the top of his class, was part of the starting lineup in football, participated in wrestling and baseball throughout his high school career. Elijah retired from the U.S. Army after a twenty-six (26) year career during which he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus-- Adelphi, Maryland. 
 
Elijah was introduced into a lifestyle of the "servant/leader" at an early age through church, Boy Scouts, athletics, and military service where he received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for volunteer work stateside and abroad. Elijah continues to serve as a medical supply technician at the Louis Stokes Veterans Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Scholarship Criteria:
 
1. Must be a Proviso East High School graduating senior.
2. 2.70 or higher grade point average.
3. Essay 
4. Proof of good attendance (no more than ten (10) absences during senior year).
5. Proof of athletic achievements.
6. Proof of community service/volunteer hours.
7. Letters of recommendation (1 each: teacher, coach, and community leader).
8. Proof of acceptance and registration in an accredited college, trade school, or military enlistment into the Delayed Entry Program with orders to ship to Basic Training within six months of graduation.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION SUBMISSION - 
April 30, 2024. All supporting documents are due by May 31, 2024
All applicants will be notified August 15, 2024 of their status. Payment to scholarship winner will disbursed during Proviso East's Homecoming Weekend (TBA).
