The Kimberly Powell Memorial Scholarship
The Kimberly Powell Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Kimberly Powell, Proviso East alumna, Class of 1984. Kimberly Powell's friends and family wish to award a $1000 scholarship to a deserving senior graduating from Proviso East High school
Her passion for cosmetology wasn’t just a skill — it was an extension of her heart. Even when life took her beyond the borders of Maywood, she always found her way back home, often settling into a familiar chair with a comb in hand. Whether she styled hair for free or at a discount, Kim poured love into her craft because she genuinely enjoyed making people feel confident and cared for.
Kim was equally devoted to her work at Loyola Hospital, where she served in Labor and Delivery with unwavering loyalty and pride. In that sacred space, she witnessed countless beginnings, transforming strangers into lifelong friends as they shared one of life’s most profound moments. The babies in the nursery brought her immeasurable joy, and the work gave her a deep sense of purpose that she carried with gratitude.
Although Kim is no longer with us, her legacy continues to shine through the lives she touched. The Kimberly Powell Memorial Scholarship honors her memory by supporting students who reflect the qualities she lived by — dedication, compassion, and a genuine heart for service. Kim would have been overjoyed to help someone pursuing a career in cosmetology or as a CNA, especially a graduate from her cherished alma mater in Maywood.
Her life was defined by generosity, loyalty, and love. Through this scholarship, her spirit lives on in the next generation of caregivers, creators, and community builders who follow in her footsteps.
